A skull encased iPhone

I’ve jumped aboard the Apple ship and gotten myself an iPhone 5. So far I’m loving every aspect of owning a touch screen phone much to the dismay of my techy friends who did their best to convince me to get a Samsung instead. But like a woman possessed I decided the iPhone 5 was what I had to have.

Everybody who owns an iPhone is well aware that you need a cover because the phone isn’t as sturdy as our childhood Nokias or brick-like Motorolas. Instead it’s a delicate thing that is often mistakenly picked up by other iPhone owners since they all look so alike. Poor ol’ Jony Ive (now officially Sir Jonathan Ive since he got knighted earlier this year) must be one frustrated bunny. Apple’s design guru probably spent hours and hours designing the iPhone only to have people spend ridiculous amounts of money on cases, covers and skins in an attempt to make their iPhone unique.

Although I love my new phone’s sleek look, I HAD to buy a case for it because it really cannot do without one. I did my homework like a true shopaholic and searched literally the entire globe until I came across Society6.

The website is home to artwork created by thousands of artists from around the world. They sell everything from gallery quality art prints, iPhone cases, t-shirts and various other fun products.

Set up by three partners, Justin Cooper, Lucas Tirigall-Caste and Justin Wills  and located in Redondo Beach, California, Society6 is a simple and powerful platform for artists to share their work and for their supporters to interact with them.

I’m a wee bit picky when it comes to the stuff I’ll buy and I was a bit wary of buying a case from across the world, but being the shopping risk taker I am, I went for it. Their iPhone cases are made with a one-piece, impact resistant, flexible plastic hard case.

After hours of going through all their great options, I chose a design by Ali Gulec. I’m a big fan of skulls ala McQueen (a tad morbid maybe) and own tons of things that have skulls on them. Bearing in mind I would be using my phone every day whilst wearing all different kinds of outfits I smartly opted for a black and white skull design.

I placed my order in the afternoon on a Friday and by the time it was morning over in California I had already gotten an email to say they had received my order and would ship it later that day. Needless to say I was impressed. Although they do say international shipping can take up to 5weeks, my package arrived in exactly a week.

All I can say is my case is FANTABULOUS! It features an extremely slim profile and easily snapped onto my iPhone for sturdy protection. The cases themselves are made out of an extremely strong plastic called Lexan, which is considered a stronger, lighter, more flexible, and of higher quality compared to other plastic cases on the market. My amazing monochrome cover encases the back and corners of the iPhone perfectly and is even cushioned inside (to absorb shock I reckon).

Part of me was feeling slightly selfish and didn’t want to share this hidden gem with you all but I told myself that I have to be a bigger person and help the artists. So GO forth! Visit Society6 and make your iPhone happy!
